New Developments

Business Flow for process-driven ERP implementation (BF4SAP)

By gathering our business transformation knowledge and experience within the methodology repository of Businss Flows we not only have the means to communicate our wholistic business transformation approach to our customers and project partners. We also ensure high quality in cooperative setups in these projects and increase our efficiency in delivering project results.

The structure of our methodology repository “business flows for process-driven ERP implementation“ has been updated to facilitate slicing either by project phases (Envision, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy and Run) or the functional work package groups (Project Management, Process Readiness, System Readiness, Data Readiness, Business Readiness). It is now possible to either access a functional library representation or E2E views. Currently there are specific E2E views for a full process-driven ERP template implementation as well as a domain-specific E2E for test management within ERP implementation projects available.

Our methodology repository has been extended with additional work packages in the field of project management as well as change management. Especially work packages accompanying multiple project phases have been reworked to highlight phase specific tasks and enable project specific tailoring of the overall model more easily.

The operating models methodology has been incorporated into the related work packages. In addition, many of the new and existing work packages have received additional reference content, like examples and templates supporting the ease of use.

New process group “Budgeting”

Release 6 features the new process group  "Budgeting", which comprises processes to ensure that financial resources are efficiently planned and allocated to meet future and current financial goals.

New H2R scenarios for Career Management

This release features two key amendments to the Hire to Retire domain. We added a new cluster of scenarios for career management which covers processes for the movement of temporary or permanent staff within the company, processes for providing a strategic framework regarding the replacement of key employees due to position changes, and the processes for global short/long-term assignments.

Mapping of the H2R scenarios to SAP scope items

In addition, our business flows reference model is now enriched with the mapping of Hire to Retire scenarios with SAP scope items.

New I2O Waste management logistics scenario

The new created E2E scenario “I2O Waste management logistics” published in the “Inbound to Outbound” (I2O) domain consolidates HSE processes for waste disposal formerly being individually used in the “P2D Decommissioning of assets” scenario. The “I2O Waste management logistics” scenario is referenced as interface in the “P2D Decommissioning of assets” scenario.

As a subsection of logistics, waste management logistics is responsible for disposing of waste in a professional manner and in accordance with environmental protection and safety laws. “Waste” can include not only residues from manufacturing such as used oil, wood chips, or metal scraps, but also broken products, obsolete goods etc.

Optimization and consolidation of scenario “A2R Acquisition to retirement” and “P2D Decommissioning of assets”

The E2E scenario "A2R Acquisition to retirement" is retired as the content is consolidated in the E2E scenario "P2D Decommissioning of assets" which includes as well the relevant asset management processes.

New process group “Quality Management”

The new process group “Quality Management” with associated processes is added to Business Flows process library. This process group covers the essential processes for the operation of a Quality / Environmental / Energy Management System based on the requirements of the corresponding ISO Standards. ISO requirements and associated processes are as follows:

New processes added to process group “Audit Management”

bpExperts enhanced the content of the existing process group “Audit Management” by creating two new L2 processes including BPMN models (L3).

This process group “Audit Management” covers all processes related to the auditing and assessment of entrepreneurial processes and decisions as well as assessing an Integrated Management System. The aim is to detect weaknesses with opportunities for improvement as well as ensuring a smooth coordination of functions and activities. The associated processes are as follows:

New processes added to process group “Risk and Compliance

The process group “Risk and Compliance” was enriched by two new L2 processes including the associated BPMN models (L3).

This process group covers all processes dealing with identifying, analyzing and responding appropriately to risks to ensure that business objects are not threatened by these risks. When analyzing risks, opportunities are likely to be identified at the same time and shall be looked at as well. The associated processes are as follows:

Operating Model

We realized we can turn our collective experience managing transformation projects into an addition to our methodology and we formalized our approach on Operating Models. Therefore, we can clearly say that there is a “missing” link between process design and business operations. This missing link can put a strain on transformation initiatives, and it can either increase their cost exponentially, delay them or in worst case scenarios, completely derail them.

Business Flows, our business transformation framework, offers a unique process and model driven approach, which combines the use of End-to-End business processes (scenarios) and Operating Models as the main blueprint for transforming an organization. Enterprises using Business Flows for their transformation are provided a comprehensive toolkit (Business Transformation Cookbook) to bridge their strategy, process design, and mode of operations. In this methodology, Operating Models are the missing link and serve as the linchpin between strategy, the implementation of said strategy, and execution.

In Business Flows an Operating Model is defined by a set of flows. Each flow distinguishes the exchange of information, material, service, or value between a “sending” and a “receiving” enterprise structure. These flows are accomplished with the help of business processes, hence every flow in the context of an Operating Model can be linked to an End-to-End scenario and/or business process. We take all the flows, including the related information, the involved organizational units, and business partners and create an object-relation model which is embedded in the process repository.

BPMN lane “Exception handling” re-named to “Alternative Flow”

As part of the German translation initiative, bpExperts revised the naming convention of the BPMN lanes and decided to change the BPMN lane “Exception handling” to “Alternative Flow”. We strongly believe this is more reflective of the day-to-day reality of some industries and companies, as in many cases the majority of process steps in a process are under the "Alternative Flow" and therefore it is not an exception.
